Members of the BCPA North East Branch should visit the
Members area with details on Events, Training and Journals, in addition to a Library of useful articles and areas to brush up on your Anatomy and Continued Professional Development.The British Chiropody & Podiatry Association (BCPA) was formed in 1959 and is one of the largest professional organisations in the United Kingdom representing the interest of thousands of fully trained independent private chiropodists and podiatrists who have all trained at the SMAE Institute, the school of Surgical Chiropody and Podiatric Medicine at Maidenhead, Berkshire.
Upon completion of their basic training in Chiropody/Podiatry members are entitled to use the letters MSSCh (Member of the Society of Surgical Chiropodists) after their names. Completion of all postgraduate training courses and modules results in the award of the Diploma in Podiatric Medicine and the use of the letters Dip Pod Med.
Some members may go on to be awarded Fellowship of the British Chiropody & Podiatry Association and be entitled to use the letters FSSCh. All members using these letters are registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC) and are entitled by law to use the protected titles "Chiropodist and Podiatrist"
Membership of the BCPA entitles the chiropodist/podiatrist to use the letters MBChA. The British Chiropody & Podiatry Association provide a large proportion of privately practicing chiropodists and podiatrists in the UK.
In 2005 the BCPA incorporated the Association of Foot Health Professionals within its auspices. Foot Health Professionals are entitled to use the letters MAFHP (Member of the Association of Foot Health Professionals) after their names, along with MCFHP (Member of the College of Foot Health Professionals).
Some members may go on to be awarded Fellowship of the College of Foot Health Professionals and be entitled to use the letters FCFHP.
All practicing members of the British Chiropody & Podiatry Association and the Association of Foot Health Professionals hold full professional indemnity insurance to the value of 5 million pounds.
The BCPA enables members to maintain contact with each other by operating at branch level throughout the United Kingdom. This serves to assist the membership with continuing their professional development as chiropodists/ podiatrists and Foot Health Professionals as well as serving a social function to members.
